How many & coming soon

How many "it's been a long time" posts can I make? It seems that Tao Kore is not suited for the typical blog driven site, and especially via blogger.com. In the near future I shall be redesigning, redeveloping, and rethinking where I want this all to go. This will be in tandem with my recently remade online portfolio (portfolio.taokore.com), my semi-soon to come social/tech media & self development blog (chisempra.com), and my company web site (www.omni-flux.com).

0024 What I've Been Doing

What in the world have I been doing since August? Definitely not posting. Kind of pointless to have a blog without updates eh? Well, I will be updating at the very least every 2 weeks from here on out - if not more.

I have several in depth projects in the works including a new social/tech media blog that Chrissy and I will be running, my new portfolio, and I am prepping and practicing more design/art as I will be graduating in June and will have to put that degree to good use. Here is a little bit of what I've been doing the last 6 months. Most of it is school related projects.

Chrissy's current layout (finally!) minus the little purple flare in the date which I was to lazy to go back and take out for this shot.

Some logos for an "I heart x-location" (think IheartNY) assignment.

A techy interface element for a Flash project that uses the logo for our new blog coming soon.

A quick bestiary sketch for Glass. Hope to make it part of a series of many creatures from the Glass world.

A demon bank created for an assignment that called for a financial institution's web site.

Fictional designer clothes web layout for a 'classy look' assignment.

Site for a made-up non-profit organization assignment.

That's it for tonight. There will be much more and on a regular basis starting NOW.

0023 Major UBD Progress!

As you can see I've finally integrated the old projecTK (projects) page into the main page here. Should have a lot more visible updates this way, as I am always working on something! The projects link above will now just take you to all posts tagged 'projects', so you can still access just that content on its own.

The final sketch before some more major building. I just thought it looked kind of cool to compare and contrast.

Some current pics going from left to right. Don't mind some of the mess about the place. We don't want to over-decorate since we still have a lot more work to do on this. We have to add edging to the top shelves and the far left shelf, possibly route the edging for a smooth edge to lean on, wood putty over cracks and screws, then prime, paint, and put back together!

We also bought two Vakoss TC-212-AS USB hubs from Frys.com to build into the legs of the upper shelves. They were perfectly small and rectangle, with both plugs coming out the back, which was just right for what we needed. I cut ventilation holes in the side and back so the hub wouldn't overheat. The wood looks really sloppy here, but perfection wasn't a big deal here because after everything is painted, I will be ordering some custom cut vinyl decals to cover the hubs and their surrounding areas. This should give it the illusion that the USB plugs are coming directly from the desk and not from a hub in a hole!

Another thing that changed. I decided I would rather have a smooth desk surface and not have the tower flush with the desk, so I made this drawer type cover for the small space there. Then the tower is still kind of built-in to the desk while also covered, but I always have access to it if need be. I will drill holes in the top for ventilation later on. Not a big deal right now since the AC vent is right next to the computer!

Lastly, some cool shots of our corners in the dark. It will look a lot cooler after we order some of the custom led sets we are building into the corner desks!

0022 it's been awhile

It's been quite some time since I've posted, or really done anything for that matter. I was busy taking math, and then e-commerce. Not to mention, I have been working on our desk project for quite some time. Soon I plan on integrating the projects page into the main page here so that there will be more content to post, rather than keeping them as separate blogs. Anyhow, I'm taking Graphic Design I (some sort of comprehensive design class I guess), so hopefully this will inspire me to get some more art or designs done. We'll see. This desk is still taking priority right now. I will post an update for it soon. I promise this time!

0021 ...And Another

One more for today. In color and with the full room layout (almost). There will be some little end pieces that angle into the brown shelves and the desk will of course be painted later. There will also be finish molding on the edges of the plywood surfaces. And much, much more once the contstruction part of things is done!

0020 Quick Update

Added some side desks and their top shelves.

0019 Sketchup

I learned how to use Google Sketchup this morning so I could jot down some ideas for how the rest of the desk would go. Here is a quick sketch of my corner piece with the upper shelf. I threw on some downloaded models of monitors and a chair similar to mine for effect.

We are getting back on schedule after the vacation to Washington. More soon to come.

0018 Some Pics Finally...

Here's the original sketch I drew before I began building.

This is a Photoshop mash-up of what we have so far. The desktops are 3/4 birch and the rest is 2x4 with 4x4 posts in the back corners of the angled desks. Later on we will use oak finish wood for the edging and the entire thing will be stained (probably a deep brown with a touch of red), and sanded where necessary.

Both computer towers will have a little wheeled box made that they will sit on, making them flush with the top of the desk for easy access to the top panel USB and audio ports, and the power strip for each machine will be neatly stowed away in the ventilated box that each tower sits on.

I'm pretty excited to get some more of this done today!
